Megan Dahle

Megan Dahle’s family owned a wheat farm, and she previously owned a plant nursery in Bieber. Before being elected to the State Assembly, she served on the Big Valley Joint Unified School District. A Republican, she served in the State Assembly from 2019 to 2024 before moving to the State Senate in 2024. Her constituency includes all of Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba counties, along with portions of Nevada and Placer counties. The district spans northeastern California, including the northern Sierra Nevada region and the Sacramento Valley. Dahle’s electoral history includes a special-election victory and two Assembly reelections; she now serves as the senator for District 1.

HOME GROUND

Dahle was born July 29, 1975. Her family owned a wheat farm, and she previously owned a plant nursery in Bieber. She and her husband have three children.

Before being elected to the Legislature, Dahle served on the Big Valley Joint Unified School District. Her personal history also includes her family’s ownership of the wheat farm and her previous ownership of the Bieber nursery.

Dahle’s school-district service preceded her election to the Assembly. She also previously owned the nursery.

THE PATH TO OFFICE

Dahle entered the Assembly through a 2019 special election for a vacant seat. Her husband, Brian, had won a special election for the California State Senate, leaving his Assembly seat vacant. Dahle defeated Democratic candidate Elizabeth Betancourt, a farmer, to fill the seat. She was reelected in 2020 and 2022.

She served in the California State Assembly from 2019 to 2024, representing the 1st District. Since 2024, she has represented the 1st District in the California State Senate.

Her documented chronology includes school-district service before her election to the Assembly, a special-election victory, two Assembly reelections and service in the Senate. Dahle has served in the Legislature since 2019, first in the Assembly and now in the Senate.

THE POLICY SIGNATURE

Dahle’s documented Senate roles include committee assignments and representation to the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.

She serves on Appropriations; Energy, Utilities and Communications; Environmental Quality; Governmental Organization; and Transportation. She also sits on the Joint Committee on Fairs Allocation and Classification, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee and the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management.

Dahle also serves as the Senate’s representative to the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.
