About Politracks
Politracks is a source-grounded civic accountability system. It collects the public record of elected officials — legislation, votes, statements, journalism, discourse — and organizes it into durable, source-cited profiles and timelines. The governing rule: every significant claim displayed about a public official must remain traceable to the original evidence.
Evidence tiers
Legislation, roll calls, minutes — parsed deterministically from official feeds and structured datasets. No AI touches these; they publish automatically, with the source attached.
Speeches, official posts, press releases — what an official said in their own voice.
Journalism, fact-checks, and Wikipedia/Wikidata-derived enrichment — always labeled as reporting, never blended with the official record.
Commentary, kept structurally distinct.
The public conversation, labeled as such.
Tiers never collapse: official record, statement, reporting, opinion, and discourse stay visually and structurally distinct everywhere in the product.
What AI does here
Votes, bill actions, sponsorships from structured feeds — auto-published. No model in the path.
Tagging, linking, classification — auto-published with a visible confidence score; low confidence routes to human review.
Summaries and narratives — always reviewed by a human before publication. The platform's own voice is always reviewed.
AI organizes the record; it never replaces it. There are no ideological scores, rankings, or predictions about officials — and corrections are versioned, never silent.

LegiScan — bills, sponsorships, roll-call votes, and legislator records. Legislative data provided by LegiScan and used under CC BY 4.0. Politracks has normalized and enriched the source data; LegiScan does not endorse Politracks or its analyses.
OpenStates — the registry of officials, with Open Civic Data identifiers.
California Legislative Information (leginfo) — the canonical bill pages our citations link to.
Every record carries its provenance: which source it came from, when it was fetched, and how it was processed.
Politracks is under active development — this site is our public staging environment. Coverage begins with California and grows state by state.
