In office

BiographyReporting (Tier 3) · reviewed

The supplied material describes Lori Wilson, an American lawyer and Florida politician born on February 15, 1937. It does not identify her as an assemblymember or mention Assembly District 11.

Background and Affiliations

Wilson was born in Waynesville, North Carolina, and came to Florida in 1960. She was part Cherokee and attended Tennessee Tech University, Rollins College, and Brevard Community College. She lived in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Wilson was an honorary director of the Central Florida Zoological Society and legislative director of the Florida Injured Wildlife Sanctuary. She was also associated with the University of Florida Foundation.

Public Service and Legal Career

Wilson served on the Brevard County Commission and represented the 16th district in the Florida State Senate as an Independent from 1973 to 1978. During her time in public service, she fought to remove pay toilets in Florida and for passage of a law protecting endangered Florida manatees.

She also worked to clean up an unofficial city dump in Cocoa Beach. The site was turned into a city park and named Lori Wilson Park by a unanimous vote.

Wilson attended the Florida State University College of Law and was admitted to the Florida bar in 1984. In 1988, she sought to return to the Florida State Senate but was narrowly defeated by Democratic state Representative Winston Gardner.

Source Limitation

Wilson died at her daughter’s home in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, on January 30, 2019, following a lengthy illness. Because the supplied record does not mention Assembly District 11, it cannot establish a profile of an assemblymember representing that district.
