Corey Jackson represents California’s 60th State Assembly district, which includes the northwestern corner of Riverside County and is anchored by Moreno Valley. He was a student member of the California State University Board of Trustees and received two social-work degrees from California Baptist University. In 2020, he was elected to the Riverside County School Board. Two years later, he defeated Republican restaurant owner Hector Diaz-Nava in the California State Assembly election. Jackson is the first Black person to represent Riverside County and the first openly gay Black man in the history of the California Legislature.

BACKGROUND AND FORMATION

Jackson was born in 1982. He was a student member of the California State University Board of Trustees.

He received his Master and Doctor of Social Work degrees from California Baptist University. His documented education and experience therefore include social work and membership on the CSU Board of Trustees.

THE PATH TO OFFICE

Jackson was elected to the Riverside County School Board in 2020.

In the 2022 California State Assembly election, Jackson faced Hector Diaz-Nava, a Republican restaurant owner. Jackson defeated Diaz-Nava and now serves in the Assembly as a member of the Democratic Party.

His election made him the first Black person to represent Riverside County and the first openly gay Black man in the history of the California Legislature.
